Part of the fun of taking over a new team is being able to immediately impact its performance by correcting some of the mistakes the bot made

A human manager would have made a better decision. That's part of botness. In the bot's defense, we aren't that many financial updates away from the end of the season, and that pitcher will be more expensive next season. If I recall correctly, bot AI was changed not that long ago to favour releasing older players and keeping lads like this one. So the philosophy is to avoid stripping bot teams of all their good assets. Sometimes some come loose anyway.
