Is there a way to tell if a guy will likely be a 12 POT or above. I still haven't figured this out... is it just luck?

Cool logo :)

Pay attention to the "overall potential" in the scouting report. There is variance, so you are never guaranteed to get a great guy, but anybody who has "very good overall potential" is a good bet. You can also get guys over 12 POT who have "good overall potential", but obviously "very good" will net you better guys on average. Occasionally a guy with "above average overall potential" will be useful, but I would stay away from guys with no potential rating. Those guys are considered "average", and average guys seldom make the majors.

Have a lot of positive comments sometimes helps too because if they're good at LOTS of things, it's highly unlikely their POT is the low end of the range. Still possible... but if you have a lot of potential SI already accounted for, there's only so low you can go.

Although the flip side to that is that it can lead to deficiencies in some areas. For instance a guy who is fast will have high Speed and Range. That could mean he doesn't have a lot of SI in BC and PD (both of which don't show up in the scout report). If a guy is a left handed fielder, I actually look for guys with low fielding, because lefty positions don't require fielding skill and they will have more SI in their batting skills.

Just to let you know, now that we are half way through the draft it will be a lot harder to find guys with good potential. Most of those guys get swept up in the first half of the draft. But if you are lucky, you may still find a sleeper or two.
