Maybe a lot of you will say neither! http://brokenbat.org/player/150381/ Hyun Ki Kim had put up some of the most eye-popping minor league numbers I've ever seen last season, before going ice cold. (at around 180 ABs had 20 HR, .320 average, OPS over 1). But my team is bad enough at getting on base, and Hyun's 6 plate discipline doesn't help. He hasn't been great over 350 league ABs either. Especially after his rookie season. http://brokenbat.org/player/160794 Ji Hoon Kim, who has very little power, but at least gets on base. .340 OBP in his recent major league games. In limited minor league ABs, .422 OBP & .444 slugging. (though that slugging may be a fluke). & on the subject of 11 potential players... http://brokenbat.org/player/159614 should I keep Takeshi Takeuchi? My #1 pick this season. Who despite that 11 potential has a scouting report of "very good potential" & great hitter/decent slugger. His eventual role would probably be a platoon DH / pinch hitter. Which sounds like a wasted roster spot now that i type it out... How many rosters spots should be wasted on 11 potential DHs? Would it be better to just sign aging free agents every season for use at DH? Updated Tuesday, August 29 2017 @ 2:13:29 am PDT |

His potential power makes him attractive ... power can blossom later for some players, too. The second Kim is a better choice of the the two Kims. He could actually stroke the ball ... I am not a fan of a 14 hitting DH at all. You can do better with the FA and waivers. Good luck! |

shikago Joined: 11/29/2011 Posts: 229 Inactive | Thanks for the reply. Would you suggest releasing the first Kim? You're probably right about 14 hitting not being enough, especially with such low discipline. I guess his gaudy minor league stats (.610 career slugging!) + his extreme similarity in build to my current 1B Mao made me overvalue him. (Mao last season: .297 avg, .485 slug) I've currently got a slightly better version of Takeuchi in Matsumoto http://brokenbat.org/player/135923/L. Who's been a disappointment, but finally started producing last season. Hopefully Takeuchi can one day put up that type of production vs. LHP *and* RHP. ETA: Extra question. In need of an open roster spot. Release Kim or this 30 year old backup: http://brokenbat.org/player/131551/L(currently my only solid defensive backup at 3B) Updated Tuesday, August 29 2017 @ 6:42:59 am PDT |

You're giving up some defense but this game is full of tough choices and imperfect solutions. How many 11 pot DHs do you give roster spots? I hadn't looked at any of your players when I read that but my instant answer to myself was one. But 2 if they're far enough apart in age makes sense. 2 if you're giving tryouts looking for the best one. 2 if one of them can cover a position. I don't think there is a hard and fast answer and this game is evolving with regards to talent as we speak. Who knows, we ALL may need to find quality 11 pots in 10 seasons. |
