Mot of those players I've parted ways with, and at first it was hard to let them go, because I felt like I was making a mistake or that I didn't *know* that they weren't actually that good, but now it's becoming easier to identify weaknesses and make cuts. Except, I'm having a hard time with Don Gaskins. I drafted him, and he's a LHP starting pitcher prospect. He's a POT 13, with reasonable defensive SI. His Pros:
His Cons:
Anyone have any thoughts on the guy? Damn, starting pitching is such a pain in the ass to find, so he's been given a pretty long leash because of that. But..... Updated Thursday, December 21 2017 @ 1:56:01 pm PST |

I don't think he will ever be a stud but at the very least he will have an ok fastball and great control. You could do worse and I think he will be useful for you. I wouldn't dump him. I'm not sure what the consensus is but him being LH wouldn't bother me. I only take handedness into consideration when comparing two similar prospects in regards to pitching. |

I feel like only having a fastball, and just an ok one at that, is a recipe for disaster as a starter. But I guess the idea is pot13 starters don’t grow on trees and ive got to give him the opportunity to fail |

Really depends on your opponents in a given season. My less-than-dominant southpaws live and die with the double play. This fella's GB:FB hasn't really settled yet. But I'm concerned. I feel obligated to develop every 13 pot pitcher regardless of the warning signs. If this guy was mine, I would see it through. But there are red flags for sure. |

Fastball only lefties have a tendency to give up a lot of HRs, and this guy doesn't even have enough velocity to make up for that deficiency with strike outs. I do consider "pitch all day" to be a read flag on anyone below 14 POT. Gaskins is going to have incredibly high stamina and control. But that comes at a cost of having no out pitches. To me he has too many red flags. I've trained up enough HR machines to be leery of doing it for an edge case guy. | ||

The HR/9 is awful and doesn't look like it will improve. I sound like a broken record, but I'll trot out Dunbar's name again. He's a righty with low movement and stellar everything else, and he's at best a SP5 for me. You have a low-movement lefty with a (so far) career .297 vs. righties? I'd say maybe try making him a bullpen lefty specialist, but he's "throw all day" with only a mediocre FB. If you don't mind him filling a roster spot, by all means, but too many warning flags for my taste. |
