I'm still very new to this. Looking for some help with setting my lineup and pitching rotation.

Having quickly scouted your roster you only really have two guys who are going to hit - Beasley and Vergara, consider replacing guys such as Carey and Pagan with young guys with upside - i.e. hitting reports

Nagel, Roman etc - plenty of options out there - once you have them sorted I'm happy to have a nosey over your lineup again :)

Offense:

To add to what JJNZ said, for LLVI, OF Ford is also worth a keep in the short-term. Go to Management and make sure his (and any other speedy guys) have at least a "+" in the Steal column. I'd even put Ford at "++" if he's not, just to see. The 12 speed isn't great, but since he has no power, you'll want to maximize the little speed he does have.

You have Mills at AAA. I'll say that me, personally, would never roster someone with "never be a decent hitter." That said, at LLVI, eh, you could go 50/50 with him. I wouldn't use him, but if you are, it's now or never. He's 27 and done with AAA. If you really want to use him, find a way to get him in the lineup now. But to be honest, "never be a decent hitter" doesn't get you far even in LLVI.

Pitching:

Brandt isn't really SP material, even at LLVI. You probably notice all those HR he gives up; chalk that up to low movement mostly, and to being a lefty partially. To be honest, While not strictly better, I'd rather have Davies in the rotation than Brandt.

Ditch Hutchins in your bullpen. At LLVI, you can do soooo much better (again low movemement, but also see that you're paying him a lot too). Your SP Baird is also almost at the end of his rope; I'd consider someone else.

Ascensio is more of a left-handed specialist than a closer. If you realllly want a closer, Venturi might be worth a shot. Landry is also an interesting arm.

Minor league cuts:

The 11 Potential players can be useful in LLVI and, to a lesser degree, V. But you want to truly scrutinize their scouting attributes, etc. to make sure you train the best possible players. In particular, player with not hitting comment AND that are 11 Potential aren't worth rostering in my opinion. If my team, Olivarez, Montoyo, and Gonzalez are instant cuts.

Even 12+ Potential players with no hitting comment are suspect and require scrutiny. Rosado in AA might make an OK stop-gap SS for LLVI, but you can find better SS who can't hit out there. Donovan in AA probably won't hit enough to be worth your time.

Felix in Rookie is an instant cut. Kearney and Darnell are probably gonners too.

General:

Don't forget to go to Minors, and at the bottom press the "Reassign Players" button. Make a habit (learn it) if you haven't already of going there after every Friday training update. Then make sure your players are where the AI recommends them. There may be a few times where you will go against the AI recommendation, but by and large, while you're still learning, just stick the players where the AI says. As you gain more experience with the game, you might make a few judgement calls.

Also, it's easy to fall into the trap of seeing shiny 13 and 14 Potential players and thinking they'll be an instant success. But that's not the case. Your Josh Mills of the world (the AAA player I mentioned previously) sure look fun, but reality says that in all but a few cases, even one deep-seated flaw like being unable to hit often makes them practically useless above LLVI. (One of the exceptions of that rule is a guy like Swenson. SS are pretty hard to come by, particularly ones that can hit. It can be worth taking a look at a 12+ Potential player who can't hit but has all the right defense for a SS.)

I started in the 2028 season. I quickly made it a mission to set a few minimums for my minor leagues. One of them was to have my batting prospects to have at least a "Good" hitting comment. (With a few exceptions; see previous SS comment.) I also generally started gravitating towards pitchers with a positive Movement pitch. Of course, there were exceptions, but set some good base standards for your prospects.

I just tossed this guy because I'm in a huge roster crunch. But he'd make a solid 1B or even lower-level left-fielder. The GB/FB is still up in the air, but you're looking for some upside. Worth a waiver claim by you.

That said, final point: stay active on the waiver wire. It'll take more time for you to figure out who to claim and who isn't worth it, but that's part of the game that even the people in the upper leagues still struggle with at times. It's a learning process. But you'll only help yourself if you stay active on the waiver wire. OH! And unless you're in a serious roster crunch and have no space by the ninth round, always make your draft pick each week the draft is available.

That is good info from lostraven.

Cervantes would be a nice piece for a young team. Definitely worth the claim.

Brewer looks good on paper, but his minors performance was very underwhelming. I'd be cautious and give him a short leash.

Until you actually need the space (from all the claims you'll be making), I would hold onto Kearney and Darnell. Kearney could turn into a decent CF. And Darnell could make a passable 2B.

You should be thinking about where you want your future guys to play, and figuring out where your holes are. Make sure to set them on the Minors page to the position you want them to train at, so they will be able to play that position when they are read for the bigs. If they are already maxed out at their position (check Development on the player page), then you can assign them to a second position they might be useful at.

This page has a lot of good info and can help you figure out which positions you should be targeting for your minor leaguers.
