Ireland was matched up with Sweden in the first round. Not exactly a power house match.

Australia has a pretty good field team, but there are a LOT of hole in their pitching.

Two of my guys are gone, Cedillo didn't get a single at bat with Puerto Rico, Liang started one game for Taiwan in 1st round, pitched 6 scoreless innings and didn't get a second chance.

The only one left is Casillas who is having his worst classic in career, 2 for 26. But the team still gets the wins so I guess it doesn't matter that much.

Park alone wasn't enough to carry South Korea through; he was POTG in both of his starts though.

Morris is the only one left now, he's already 4 time POTG for Australia and will look for more. Go Aussies!

Wow 25-0! Wouldn't have expected that this late in the World Classic.

Good luck to Mexico and the three Chili Peppers on the roster in the crunch game against the Dominican Republic!

Yeah, I'm not sure that after going 31 starts and 200 innings last year with a 2.92 ERA, that Gallardo was expecting to get lit up for 7 homers and 20 runs!

USA wins again. Wonder if we need to change things to make it a bit more competitive.

I don't really want to alter the nationality distribution dramatically, so I'm not sure what the solution is.

What about changing it slightly to the World Youth Classic and only include players up to say 25 years of age? I think it would include a lot more managers interest. And would naturally level the playing field a bit.

Thanks.

I had to look this up - not trying to rub it in anyone's face, just using it to point out the difference here between reality and virtual reality.

2006: 1st - Japan, 2nd - Cuba, 3rd - South Korea, 4th - Dominican Republic
2009: 1st - Japan, 2nd - South Korea, 3rd - Venezuela, 4th - USA
2013: 1st - Dominican Republic, 2nd - Puerto Rico, 3rd - Japan, 4th - Netherlands

I know the formats are different and participation from the top players if often highly varied, but that is a huge discrepancy.

Just don't ask me for ideas on how to fix it. :)
