Thanks for the reply Tiger504.

Bales and Mills were both drafted with the thought that maybe they could DH. But I didn't expect much else. Both you and Rock have made me think that maybe Bales can pay LF - so I'm trying him out there.

Escobar's range has always made me question if he could play short, but Gotzy is getting up there in age. Maybe I should swap Gotz and Escobar for the rest of the season to get Escobar some positional experience?

And yeah my AAA is full - I don't like letting go. Fletcher looks like a dud, but it's tough to drop a 14 POT, but it doesn't seem like it's going to be 14.

Fletcher is an interesting case. You should try to nurse him along. I'd suggest putting him back to AA for 2069 for a full season. And then a season at AAA for 2070. That plus 3 spring trainings of the starting rotation and you could be pleasantly surprised.

Bales is on the low side for Range, but he is a good enough hitter to trot him out to LF. Just make sure your CF has good range.

I'm skeptical of Escobar's range as well. I like more at SS. But Tiger is right that SS is really his only option. That or backup.

Fletcher is 21, which means he will get his final scouting refinement at the end of this season. It will be interesting to see if he maintains 14. I think he is borderline, but borderline doesn't mean cut.

OK, thinking about 2B. I agree Chico Escobar is not productive since moving to LL4, and never will be.

The low PD is killing Everett, but I've seen worst at 2B. At least he has a good Power-GB/FB matchup, and good defensive stats. Wants to play in a small park with high walls though.

Is that because he's an extreme fly ball hitter, so he's pretty much going to fly out everytime he actually makes contact?

Could Simpson play 2B? Would he be a better long term solution than Everett? Or does his 'solid' fielding make him a liability at 2B?

Yes, a large field is bad for guys who hit the ball in the air, but great for guys who hit it on the ground.

It depends on what you can live with for errors. I've had decent 2B who were "solid". Simpson is already a 13 Fielding - I think he is fine.

These two guys are kind of opposites. Simpson will play best in a large field, and lower wall height would give him more HRs. Everett will play best in a small field, and high walls won't hurt his HR rate.

Simpson will get on base more. Everett has the potential to hit more HRs in the right park. I would have a preference for Simpson in the long run. But you don't have to rush it. Maybe just use him at vLHP for now. Simpson has a fairly strong split in that direction, while Everett is a little more consistent on both sides. Just make sure to get Simpson innings each week, but you can still keep Everett as the main starter until Simpson is more developed.

Of course, if you are in rebuild mode - yeah, just start Simpson. I think he is the better guy for the future, as long as his FP is tolerable.

Plus Everett is getting close to his max skills (maybe one or two more points), so the returns there aren't as beneficial (even if you decide to keep Everett as the starter long term).

Thought I would update this thread a year later, just for fun. I appreciate the advice from both Rock777 and Tiger504, and this season was probably my most fun so far. I tried to only concentrate on playing time for the youngsters, not so much on winning, and getting the player development reports every Friday was fun.

I started two veterans in the linup, Gotz at SS, because Yeager wasn't ready yet, and Posada at RF, because I think maybe Steward is the future, but he's also not ready.

Bales was my offensive player of the year in LF. He's a keeper.

Szewczyk at 1B, still a bit of a question mark, but I have no one better, and he was 3rd best offenively.

I played Simpson at 2B all year. He did pretty good. I think he's about done gaining points.

Gilley got ROTY at C. I've never had a ROTY, so that was fun!

Lang in CF was a bit disappointing offensively, but I think that because of his low BC. But still a good CF.

Becerra was not much above average as a hitter, but I'm not giving up on him at 3B.

I took a gamble on Mills at DH, hoping that he may pop to a 12 when he turned 22, and he did!

Pitching. I'm still trying to find good pitchers with high stamina to start. It seems very difficult. McHenry did a solid job. Byrne also was pretty good, but not young anymore.

Lynn won Rookie POTY - so he's a bright spot.

I used a closer for the first time ever last season. That seemed to work out well. I probably should have been using a closer all along :). Carmicheal was a mid-season addition and had 31 saves, and only 2 BS.

So it was a fun season of rebuilding. I only have 3 players left who were on the roster when I took over the team in 2060, Gotz, Posada, and Ortiz.

Simpson is looking solid at 2B, his defense will improve a lot as he gets more position experience. He might still surprise you with a few SI pops.

Lang's low BC will definitely depress his OBP, but his Power and Base Stealing help compensate. Nice Range for CF too.
