It seems silly when we get Catchers out of college with a 6 arm. How were they playing Catcher in college? Proposed Position Templates: Catcher 00 - 20 Fielding (atrocious -- amazing) 00 - 20 Range 12 - 20 Arm First 00 - 20 Fielding (atrocious -- amazing) 00 - 20 Range 00 - 20 Arm Second 9 - 20 Fielding (nothing -- amazing) 10 - 20 Range 00 - 20 Arm Short 9 - 20 Fielding (nothing -- amazing) 10 - 20 Range 10 - 20 Arm Third 8 - 20 Fielding (below average -- amazing) 00 - 20 Range 10 - 20 Arm Left 00 - 20 Fielding (atrocious -- amazing) 00 - 20 Range 00 - 20 Arm Center 00 - 20 Fielding (atrocious -- amazing) 10 - 20 Range 00 - 20 Arm Right 00 - 20 Fielding (atrocious -- amazing) 00 - 20 Range 10 - 20 Arm Notice that the lower end of the range still allows for busts. This would make the initial position attribute mean something, and allow for people to be more strategic in their picks. One possible way to implement this would be to redistribute positions after all players are created. That way there would be no real impact on the distribution of skills. Rather just a relabeling of positions to better match players' initial skills. Updated Saturday, September 17 2016 @ 8:28:29 pm PDT |

I do think it's silly that 20+ year old players start so low with their fielding ratings, though. Many don't max out until 27 or 28 (actually many never make it because they start so low), which is completely bogus. | ||

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I like the fact we can't see the actual values, but I feel like we should have some idea where a guy can play from the scouting report. The more obscured (but decipherable) information the better. |
