It's almost like a mini-game if you've got your eye on somebody. Do I take him now, or do I wait another week and somebody else might get him first? Fun! If it takes a guy more than half a year (25% drop) to negotiate his salary, something isn't working right. I also don't think a 5% drop is going to be enough to cause a sudden race to hire. Only a couple people will consider the increment worth while. One thought would be to have it happen randomly during the week (like manager drops), to help prevent draft-like race conditions. |
