It can be very difficult to improve your team in this game if you do not have draft luck and the benefit of the waivers roulette wheel. Having a poor draft board in the first few rounds (or even one of them) can set you back quite a bit if it happens a few years in a row.

The suggestion here is to give us two options for our draft screen. So, for example, if I pick "Pitcher" like I personally did in Round 2 and I hate the board, I can go back and pick a different category like "High School". The restriction is that you can only do that once per round and you cannot re-pick the same category (so I couldn't go back and pick "Pitcher" again in that same round).

I'm here to commiserate with you.

Absolute rubbish pile of a draft board, the 10 potential Pierre drafted is honest to god the best player on my board, and really by far the best player. Like it wasn't even close, ughhh.

I have hard time to select anyone and you want another pick from the same board?

There is only so much talent in the draft -- it's a closed system. So you can have a 2nd option or more pick options in the 1st category, but that just means the better players get drained faster.

So I don't really agree with a 2nd option. I guess the question is should you get to pick from more (or less) players with each draft pick?

I'm always for more choice. More choices mean more strategy and less luck. Of course it also means the talent drains faster...

I'm still a fan of reserving out a separate pool of 756 POT 13+ players for the first round and just distributing one randomly as an extra player for each team in their first round. Then any extras can be rolled back in for round 2. Or maybe staggered in to create sleeper picks.

It's always been a tough topic. I forget now but we used to pick from a field of 5 guys right?

10 is much better.

I'm fine with how it is now.

Maybe if the player potential had a minimum of 10 or 11 it would lead to less 1st round board horror stories?

If I could change anything at all it would be start the draft a week earlier and/or pick up the draft round pace so it ends way earlier in the season (or even gets completed in the offseason during the WC and Spring Training).

I agree with Freddy, and wish rd 1 happened before spring training. It'd be wonderful to draft a player and get to see him in non-crucial games.

Different thought regarding drafting ... I've wondered about changing a player's category. For example, you're looking at NP who'll never be a decent hitter, but he's a 14 pot ... wouldn't it be cool to be able to change him into a pitcher and spin the wheel to see if he develops well. Maybe a crap pitcher that has a decent range/fielding could be similarly swapped into a hitter.

In my imagination, there would be fairly strict qualifications: to convert to pitcher maybe require a good arm and poor hitting and slugging comments. I know there are plenty of good pitchers with weak arms, but I wad a drawing a line somewhere in the sand. I thought good fielding and range numbers might trigger a chance to develop a hitter.

"Hey kid, I know you always wanted to be the next Babe Ruth/Roger Clemens, but you can't hit water falling out of boat, maybe you could give outfield/pitching a shot. You've got great athleticism."

Anyway, just late night ramblings from Norcal. 😉

That's what all those POT 14/15 never get out of the minors are. Either really good pitchers who are classified as hitters, or really good hitters who are classified as pitchers. Not sure if its a bug or a balancing thing. But it would be a HUGE game changer if training between pitcher and hitter were allowed. If that were to happen, I would definitely recommend all of those existing guys get cleared out of the database. Otherwise, the first person to log in that day will end up with a team full of superstars.

I’m inclined to say don’t change a thing but I do miss the days when you used to have a tough decision to make between two or three players at least in the first round. That never happens anymore, at least to me.
