September 1st, 2010 - In-game substitution complete!
All the in-game player substitution functions are complete - that means relief pitching, pinch hitter, pinch runners and defensive replacements. The base stealing calculation was also improved. Other aspects of the game engine continue to be tweaked.

August 31st, 2010 - Dry Run #1 complete, reset required...
The first system dry run is complete...the site ran for 40+ days and simulated half a season. Last night, we reset the game so that we could add hidden values to the players and expand the league pyramid to 6 levels.

August 24th, 2010 - Help is on the way!
Pitching substitutions (ie. relief pitchers) have now been implemented. Currently, starting pitchers are on a 120 pitch soft limit and then can be relieved by the five pitchers in the bullpen.

August 21st, 2010 - Pitching optimizer released!
The advanced version of the pitching optimizer is up and running - it selects the best pitchers for the starting rotation and the bullpen. Next up: relief pitchers to be added to the game simulation.

August 20th, 2010 - Lineup optimizer released!
The first version of the lineup optimizer is running - it selects the best player at each position and the optimal batting order with those players. Statistics will now have a little more meaning since the best players are now playing for each team.

August 15th, 2010 - First version of realistic game engine complete and online!
The realistic game engine (version 1.02) is online. It supports all forms of at bat outcomes, offensive & defensive tactics (like bunting, infield-in etc.) and base stealing. Still to be implemented for the next version is defensive effects, relief pitchers and player substitutions (pinch hitter & defensive substitutions).

July 30th, 2010 - Realistic game engine here!
The realistic game engine is now active -- albeit in a limited form. The engine does not yet support stealing and advanced base running, offensive and defensive tactics, substitutions, ballpark effects, weather effects and defense. But the hitter-pitcher match-up is coded -- batting averages and such may need tweaking.

July 22nd, 2010 - Logo mascots are here!
Each and every team has now been given a default logo mascot. I think this will improve the overall look and feel of the team pages. Mascot art obtained from extremeclipart.com.

July 3rd, 2010 - New Layout
The new layout is up now...probably best viewed with Firefox, since IE is pretty spotty when it comes to supporting CSS 3.0 and stuff like round corners etc. Still working out a few issues with it, but I think the new design is a real improvement. Let me know if you like it!

June 23rd, 2010 - Game Scheduler
The game scheduler is now up and running. One series of games will be played per afternoon/evening starting at 5:00 pm EST / 2:00 pm PST and each successive game starting an hour later. The seven game playoffs will be played over three days. An entire season will last roughly two months.

June 5th, 2010 - Simple salaries...
The most simple of salary computations has been implemented. Now players will be roughly paid what they're worth, errr rather something based on their production over the last three seasons.

May 27th, 2010 - Box Scores!
Box scores now available - need I say more?

May 10th, 2010 - Numerical Game Engine is here!
A very basic numerical game engine is now live. Players aggregate pitching, hitting and defensive values are now taken into account when determining game scores (plus random factors). Still some improvements need to be made to it and, of course, the ultimate goal is an event driven simulation based on player matchups and individual skills.

May 3rd, 2010 - New host and server!
Recently moved to a new host and things are now running without the old failed updates as before. Also am able to use InnoDB which should improve the overall reliability of the site's data.

April 20th, 2010 - More good stuff...
3-game cup algorithm completed, scheduling of the cup must change now. Also, cup and league trophies in the team history page. Players have city initials on cap.

April 13th, 2010 - Lots of new stuff!
Playoffs, EOS processing and Cup scheduling and games have been added. Also, added a team history page to track successes and failures from the previous season.

April 5th, 2010 - Winners & Losers
Pitchers that is! Games are being simulated (albeit not a very sophisticated simulation) and winning and losing pitchers are assigned. More statistics to follow and a better game simulator.

March 28th, 2010 - Game Scheduler Running
Wahoo! I have the game scheduler going and I'm running up to 90 simulated games every 5 minutes. Not we just need to improve the simulation and add in the player performance and statistics!

March 15th, 2010 - New Pages & Features
Lots of new features added...ballpark pages, nation pages, player statistics. Next stop, a real game simulation!

January 19th, 2010 - First game simulated!
Broken Bat simulated its first games. The game engine was pretty much just a random number generator, the real engine had not been converted from C++ yet. Anyhow, Detroit defeated Los Angeles in the first ML playoffs.

December 30th, 2009 - Broken Bat website created!
The Broken Bat site was created using PHP and MySQL. Functionality was minimal at first, but it created a nice facade.
