Dude, Work more harder, scouters! ...Wait, oh they get VG pitchers... ok if this guy is under 12POT, you guys all fired! Pick him, 13 POT. Scouter's salary bonus confirmed. He is definitely not an ace one, but I don't care because he is #3 rounder and he is THROWER. He can be borderline SP or LR on 2035-2036. Good draft result this year. Having had good picks in early rounds the previous couple of seasons for some reason chose a different strategy this season and got nothing. College in round 3. http://brokenbat.org/player/155416 Will be good enough as a bat but not sure what else he can do. |

As for Roanoke, only 2 good players in the pool, one was a pitcher (i have enough of them), other didn't have a good description. So i picked the best above average and landed with the first C&R of the season. First 2 rounds went very good so i really can't complain after all. Updated Friday, May 26 2017 @ 5:47:56 am PDT |

The position player was right-handed and had only one attribute--a great hitter. That's great, but unless he hit the top end of 13 or greater, he wasn't going to be good enough to play anywhere. Add to that being 21 from Latin America and he sounded like a losing proposition. My pitcher was intriguing. Major league fastball and excellent curveball, however he had below average control and is a lefty. The thing that swayed me, though, was that he's just 16. Okay, I'll bite. Make him a 13 and he'll make it for sure. Ugh. He's a 12. But wait. The bright side is his defensive ratings are 4/5/9, essentially making him a twelve-and-a-half. Crud. Completely borderline. If he can avoid too many gopher balls and walks, he has a shot. I hate guys like this. I probably won't cut him right now, but the odds of him making through 5 years of cuts aren't great. |

occham Joined: 11/07/2011 Posts: 258 Inactive | Last week, faced with 'good' pitcher and 'very good' hitter, I went with the pitcher and was woefully disappointed. Vowed to not do that again. This week, I was faced with the exact same situation - a 'good' pitcher I wanted and a 'very good' hitter that seemed solid. This week I with the hitter - and am only mostly disappointed instead of completely disappointed. http://brokenbat.org/player/155365 Decent description but seriously, at 21 years old, unless he gains 10+ points / year, he'll never hit the majors. pthhhhh.... His fielding is wasted, but I can look at him as an ideal 14-POT left fielder if I need to. Now hopefully he advances at a good speed rather than a mere 3 points a season that I've seen with my other high-POT picks. |

wil_m Joined: 01/08/2016 Posts: 248 Inactive | Went with the best scouting report I had listed this round. He was a Shortstop with the following: Name: Billy Ray Wilkerson “He can be a good hitter. He can develop into a decent slugger. He can be outstanding in the field. He has good overall potential.” Seemed like he could be an OK Shortstop, but alas not. Draft and Release. But I am thankful that last round I got a pot 14 hitter. And I'll try again next round! EDIT: But if he does not catch on with another team at least with his name he could try becoming a country music star! "Billy Ray Wilkerson" Updated Friday, May 26 2017 @ 7:35:52 am PDT |

(There should always be one or two, IMO.) Went with most promising bat, which turned into a 10 POT with little promise. Hopefully I can pull a decent pitcher out of Latin in the next few rounds. Slug5373 Joined: 12/23/2014 Posts: 376 Inactive | Landed a 16 YO Latin 14 POT pitching prospect. Boom. I was starting to discover a lack of pitching in my younger minors, but this is a great way to start sealing that gap. One more serviceable hitter and I would call this a great draft year, but even if I don't get anything else it will be at least solid. http://brokenbat.org/player/155556 |
