| All this NHL expansion draft talk has me thinking - what if Broken Bat had an expansion draft? I would imagine it would be like the most recent MLB expansion draft in 1997 - you could protect 15 of your players from your entire roster (major and minor) for the first round of the draft and an additional three players in each round. Who do you protect, and if you want, why? Who do you not protect, and why? I also assume since trades are not legal in Broken Bat as of now, teams cannot trade draft picks to other teams to entice them to not hold on to players they may have taken. For my answers - I decided to not protect anyone over 30. Not worth holding onto them if an expansion team wanted them. I also decided to not protect my entire bullpen due to their age and/or lack of performance or value. BATTERS - 8 C - Joe Hudson Probably my top catching prospect. He would probably be the 13th or 14th guy on my list, but I feel he would be valuable enough to protect since he's so close. 1B - Leonard Harada Former first-round draft pick. Doesn't have the power most like for their first baseman, but he's done well in the minors. I probably will put him in at first base when the time comes. Too good not to protect. 2B - Jose Garcia He's finally seeming to come into his prime and that would be annoying to lose someone who's a former first-rounder and starting to do okay. Juan Pablo del Valle I'm still not sure how good he'll be, but he's a 19-year-old in AA ball. Potential for a long career ahead. SS - NONE I only have placeholders or guys I am taking a risk on. No one I feel too bad about losing. 3B - Antonio Villalobos He would definitely get grabbed by another team if I didn't protect him. He hasn't been great but I still see value in him and think there could be some decent years ahead. OF - Doug Dale A guy who could be a key member of the outfielding corps for the next ten years. He's also super flexible defensively and is coming along very nicely. Alex Tyree I'd probably consider him the most valuable batter I have. He's going to be really good. Starting left fielder of the future. Don Amato He hasn't been stellar in his first year, but I hope to build the future around him in some way. Enough upside to protect. Hector Alberro As of now the starting right fielder of the future. He could be pretty good! PITCHERS - 7 STARTERS - Young Nam Park Right at his prime. Would hate to lose him. Dmitry Lebedev Has been very impressive in his first year, even as he enters his prime. Another key member of the rotation. Tadashi Ueda Has not performed well this year, but could still do very well in terms of his career. Richard Curran Has been a top-25 prospect in all of Broken Bat this year. He's now getting some opportunity in the big league squad before finishing the year back in AAA. Cole Burk Top-10 and sometimes top-5 prospect in all of Broken Bat. He will be amazing one day. Gorman Farrell 2032 second-round pick, closer of the future. Could do very well in that role. Looking forward to seeing your results!! |

| Very interesting, and probably a tough one to do for me given that a lot of my team is in their prime - in saying that however my minors are as weak as they've been in a long time. C:Marrerro - at 29 he's still got a few years in him, and has been consistently good 1B: Fajardo - defintely my Number 1 player and the first I'd protect. 2B: Schneider - thought for a while about this one - he's not amazing, but his defense, and the fact that he hits from the left side is enough for me to protect him, he'd definitely be picked up by an expansion team otherwise. 3B: Soriano - similar to Marrero, consistently good, originally a 2 waiver claim 12 pot who has in reality been the only decent 3B I've had in 11+ seasons here SS: Keefe despite his offensive limitations (i.e. not being able to hit righty's at all) he's great against lefty pitching and invaluable off the bench CF: Prieto was an under developed low claim 13 pot waiver pick when I grabbed him to fill a hole at CF, he's become an all round valuable guy LF:Fernandez - the lead off guy my teams always been missing, should help me in that spot for another 4-5 seasons minimum P's: Sager, Hester, Pardo , Chavarria - all relatively young 14 pots who form the core of my pitching staff Also: Figueroa - innings eater who at 27 still has plenty left in him - probably more value to me than any other teams Nelson - 14 pot who i haven't quite figured where he fits, but I feel he'd need protecting Minors: Black - future 3B Titus - future top/mid rotation guy This does still leave a lot of good guys out there to be claimed, tough decisions! | Interesting. I like this idea, so I did it... 15 Keepers: Offense (In order of age): 3B Darren Black -- 29 YO He's a terrific leadoff hitter and well worth protection for another 3 years of speedy production, despite Gregory McFadden knocking on the door as the next 3B. McFadden can hide at shortstop as Batista declines and Eric Mattox develops. DH Worrawut Srisati -- 27 YO He hasn't been the absolute Zach Simpson-like stud I thought he'd be (yet... last year was promising), but he has still been a very productive player and will produce for at least 4 more seasons. OF Henry Bagley -- 27 YO Bagley is a perfect 2 hole hitter whose only weakness is power. He has a near flawless outfield build and will be a mainstay in the lineup for at least four more seasons. C Juan Fossas -- 26 YO I still tend to call this guy my catcher "of the future." But, really, the future is now for Fossas. I'm really, really depending on him to produce because I have very few other catching options at the moment. This year has been far more promising than last years train-wreck (.269 OBP... TWO SIXTY NINE!!!) He really needs to throw runners out a higher than 20% clip though. If he pans out and actually learns how to play baseball in the next two seasons he could be a valuable piece. SS/3B Gregory McFadden -- 26 YO McFadden will handle SS duties for the rapidly declining (and frankly subpar defensive) shortstop Pedro Batista in the foreseeable future. McFadden is much more of a natural 3B, but since that is being blocked by Black, I believe McFadden can hold his own at shortstop until he can slot in at third in a few seasons. He's still improving too and I'm excited to see how he ends up offensively. OF Ruben Maldonado -- 25 YO It seems like this guy has been in the bigs forever... yet he's just 25 YO. Just looking at this guy's ratings he should be a superstar caliber player. Great outfield build, good hitting ability, can draw walks, and possess's tremendous lead-off speed. Unfortunately, his career has taken off about as fast as if I were to go outside and flap my wings like a lunatic. Maldonado is the master of teasing his potential too. He'll get on a hot streak for about 5 games where he'll bat .750 with two HR, five steals, and three walks... then he'll go 0-50. Take last season: he batted just .222... but he stole 39 bases! He hit only four home runs and slugged a pathetic .316... but he walked 57 times in about 500 PA! I think he's purposely trying to frustrate me. Excluding his rookie season where he had just 135 at bats, this is the first year he is anywhere close to a .250 average. His OPS is actually over .700 too! -- Gasp. On a serious note though, it is too early to give up on Maldonado (He's been up for 3 1/2 seasons already, and he's 25!!!). He has the potential to be a high producer in my lineup for the next 7-8 seasons. SS Eric Mattox -- 20 YO Mattox is being kept for obvious reasons. No, he doesn't have the range for a really good shortstop, but if he can fill the void until I find a good one I will be happy. But the real plus with Mattox is his incredible offensive potential. He may be a budding superstar. 2B Juan Pablo Torres -- 20 YO Torres is starting to look like a guy that will be in my minors until 26 or 27 years old, but the payoff maybe worth it. He is an impeccably built 2B with the potential to hit for a high average. He also has enough speed where he could be a decent two hitter in the lineup and play all-star level 2B. Totally worth the protection in an expansion. 3B Manuel Vera -- 17 YO The last hitter I am keeping in my first 15 is Mr. Vera. He is an impeccably build 3B who shows Art Neal-type promise with the bat too. Given his age and level, he seems to be developing at an ok rate too. I fully expect Vera to be a valuable piece for the Isotopes starting 6-7 seasons from now. Pitching: CL Kurt Sutton -- 29 YO Kurt Sutton really turned his career around after a rough start. He has blossomed into the reliable relief pitcher I always hoped he'd be. Although he's already 29 years old, he still has another 2-3 seasons of reliable closing for the 'topes. That's worth a spot for me. (Pellegrini was the other candidate to take this spot, but Pellegrini seems to be living on borrowed time with his success in my opinion.) RP Patrick Pyle -- 23 YO Who is going to take over for Sutton when he drops off? That would be this guy, Pyle. The scouting report speaks for itself. He's gonna be a good one in a few seasons, I just have to be patient as he irons out the wrinkles right now. SP Roman Johnson -- 21 YO It is hard to come by 14+ POT pitchers in this game, and when you do, I believe it's worth protecting them. Johnson is a little behind in development, but I think he's still likely to reach his potential or nearly reach it and become a reliable 3 starter in the future. SP Jim Baker -- 21 YO Baker's development speed is a bit worrying, but I love his report, and it doesn't hurt that he's a lefty. I'm going to give him a bit more time. SP Orlando Trujillo -- 16 YO 14 POT, 16 years old and no negative scouting? That's about as obvious a keep as it gets. Alright, that's my 15 guys. I enjoyed sifting through my roster and quickly throwing this together. | In no special order... 1. Corey Lawson: Under-performing this season... but still can't give up that Hitting/BC/PD combo. Also great range for CF to boot. He might be 30, but I don't see him being irrelevant anytime soon. 2. Denny Lynn: Hitting+Power with a strong OF arm, scoring him double digit assists each season. He's just a solid player that I'd need to keep around to stay competitive. 3. Wen Gu: Another good hitter that I wouldn't want taken. 4. Jun Seo Kim: This guy has monster offensive attributes and a good arm to hold down 3B. 5. Cristiano Santana: He's been one of my best HR hitters since arrival, consitently knocking out 30+. He's also a 2-time MVP so that's good reason right there. 6. Hideyuki Yamashita: Cannon armed catcher with decent offensive ability 7. Masatsugu Takahashi: Everything I want defensively in a shortstop AND he hits! 8. Kang Dae Lee: My middle infield wouldn't be complete without this guy. Good enough for me defensively with some nice offensive ability. 9. Hayaoto Ishigami: Young prospect that I hope for great things from. Could be my DH of the future. 10. Michio Futagawa: One of my more successful pitchers, he gets the job done well. 11. Jason Stanton: Another really good starter, critical to my success. 12. Jie Huang: Though he hasn't lived up to expectations thus far, I need something to make it to 15... and at 24, I still have hope that he'll be useful. Certainly wouldn't wanna just give him away. 13. Kazunori Enatsu: Great reliever, has been a boon in the SU role. 14. Fernando Bonilla: With a great fastball and deceptive change, he's done an amazing job closing out games for me. 15. Cedric Armstrong: Perhaps my top prospect... he's gonna be a great 2B on both sides of the game. As for who I didn't protect... mostly my backups, end rotation starters, and horrendous relief pitchers... also didn't really both with my minors since it's mostly 12 and 13 pot guys that are there to be fill-ins until I can find better prospects. |

| Uh...now that's a hard question. Choosing 15 players I wouldn't mind to give up would be much easier. So I'd rather relocate my team and flee the country with my whole roster instead.  Fine *cringes*, I'll bite. Major leaguers: C/DH - Morris - my biggest star, future hall-of-famer, etc, etc. Would've been even better if he reached his 15 pot, learned to play OF and didn't start declining at 29, but nonetheless, he's great. C - Cho - he's a good catcher despite being a lefty, with 42.3 CS% this season, and his name sounds funny in Russian and also reminds of a certain videogame character. 1B - Crow - a great all-around player still in his prime. SS/2B - Wagner - he's finally starting to live up to his potential despite seriously lacking in bat control, and you just don't give away fully developed 27 y.o. player of his caliber. 3B - Hoffman - an aging but still irreplaceable third baseman. OF - Eklund - Unlike Morris, this former catcher quickly learned how to play in outfield. At 25, he's still growing and improving. Should be my top outfielder for years to come. P - Park - best pitcher and, more importantly, my beloved girlfriend's favorite player. Nuff said. P - Finley - not a star pitcher by any means, but he's always been reliable. Again, would be great if he reached his 14 pot, but alas, the game seems to have a different opinion on this. P - Daly - rookie pitcher with a lot to learn, but quite possibly my future ace. P - Wheeler - I literally spent years on his development, not to mention he's been training like mad all this time. This guy should be awarded for his dedication to baseball or something like that. P - Gunther - made the team at the young age of 21, and now worryingly stopped progressing despite receiving full AAA training and ML recommendation. Still, a good young reliever with potential to become even better and turn into a starter one day. Minor leaguers: 1B - Petrovic - switch-hitting first baseman with immense potential. Still has a long way to go, but should be a star player once he gets there. 2B - Johnsen - at 22, he's got not much time left to reach his potential, but I'm still optimistic about him. OF - Benitez - my top rated prospect, still young enough and already developed enough to consider him a starting OF for the future. Also, there's always been a lack of good left-handed hitters in my team. 3B(?) - Montanez - I said this guy was my birthday present this year, and you don't give away your birthday presents.  |

| This should be a fun exercise. It would probably be easiest for teams who think they will be better in few years than they are right now because they could simply focus on the future. For those who are fighting now, it can be a bit more tricky. I'm hoping to be able to move up the ladder again over the next couple years, so I'll go with a balanced approach. Mine are roughly in order starting with "no way you can't have him" and working down. 1. Perez is the best players I've ever had. At 27, he's perfect for now and later. 2. Koch is my young gun that has been pitching in the Bigs due to injuries in my rotation. At 24, I fully expect him to be atop my rotation for several seasons. 3. The only player I've ever had with an overall potential above 14, Naranjo hasn't shown what he can do yet. He's only 25, so I'm not too worried about it. 4. If he can stay away from injuries (he's had two totaling around 40 days lost so far this season), 27 year old Calvo is my workhorse starter. If he had average COS, he'd be a monster. 5. I'll use the top prospect algorithm for this one. Black was my first round pick this year and already has 29 stolen bases. My entire major league squad has 10 for the year. A switch-hitter who will play second and centerfield. He's only 18 so if things go well, I might get his services for a decade or more. 6. I'll be lucky to get five years out him, but pitchers are tough to come by. Guillen has been good in the minors; I'm hoping for even better things at his peak, which needs to happen quickly for the 26 year old. 7. "Chapa Stick" probably has no business being here. He's 28, has 40 HRs and a .738 OPS over roughly two full seasons. He was probably the first guy I really got excited about from the draft, though, and somehow that has never dissipated much even despite average numbers. Scouting Report: He can be a great hitter. He can develop into a prolific slugger. He is not very fast. He can be outstanding in the field. He's a switch-hitter who throw with his right. Man, he sounds amazing. Too bad he's simply good. 8. The AI says Toledo is my best pitching prospect. I don't see it, but I'll trust my scouts. 9. An 18 year old that I think will develop into a guy that average more than 16 for the four hitting categories. He hasn't shown much over his first season and a half in the minors, but how could I let Villanueva go? 10. Time to save the next couple seasons. I thought Atkins was a waiver claim disappointment last year has he struggled to eclipse a 700 OPS. He's destroying the ball with authority this season with 18 homers and a 881 OPS all while playing the majority of his games at second. 11. Another poor COS guy who does everything else well. 24 year old Velazquez has come into his own this year with a .209 BAA, 2.80 and 1.006 ERA from the pen. What is wrong with me? This guy has to be a top five keeper guy even if he is just a reliever. 12. I guess a team needs a catcher. We have a great platoon thing going. They have very similar numbers, so one would think you'd keep the lefty since there are more righty pitchers. However, he can't hit lefties at all and my right-handed hitter hit both similarly. He's also 29 instead of 30, so Ibanez is safe on our list. 13. Chen is a bit wild, even if he isn't declared so in his report. His 11 control has amounted to 378 walks in 792 innings, and he gives up too many long balls (114). Every team needs starting pitching, though, and while he's not great, I think we'd be hurting to find another this not-bad. 14. Oh, yeah. A backstop for when Ibanez is done. Pina will hopefully be that guy. A lefty bat very good hitter with an 18 arm should do the trick. 15. Who knows. This spot could be one of ten players. Today I'll choose Irizarry simply to make myself feel better about this year's draft. I got him two weeks ago and he looks to be a decent average, crazy good defensive outfielder (19 range, 17 arm). I should probably pick my current first baseman over him, but I'll go this route since it's purely hypothetical. |

| FIFTEEN?! Why that many? Might have trouble getting to that target this season, especially with so many hitters with extreme splits. In order from majors hitters, pitchers, AAA down to Rookie:- 1. 2B Tan has only been on my team four weeks but is easily my top hitter. Had a slow start but has come around. 2. 3B MV3 has been my stud since his (and mine) second season. He dropped a point of speed in the offseason and his POT fell back down to 13 from 14 (where it had popped to originally), and his doubles, AVG, SLG and OPS are WAY down from what they were previously in LLV. At 30 though I'll keep him around, sure he'll turn it around in the second half. 3. DH Jorgensen is my 3rd best hitter, and the first hitter I drafted to make it. Another slow starter this year and one who doesn't have a position, but good enough. 4. LF Burkhart has turned out nicely for a 1-waiver claim. 5. 1B Connelly is getting there, not sure where his build is going but we'll see. 6. CF Jedi moved quickly but turns out that one season in AAA where he couldn't hit righties was not the anomaly. Figures. 7. SP Baird needs no explanation. 8. SP The Judge was my first draftee to come up, but never has much luck, consistently worst run support and we've had a ton of games where we piled up late runs after he was pulled and won for a reliever. 9. SP Knepper lacks movement on his pitches which as a fly ball pitcher means he's extremely gopher-prone. When he's not serving those up though he's very good. 10. SP James was taken the round after Baird, should turn out well. 11. SS (AAA) Suzuki should be ready at the end of this season or next. Won't hit much but should be an OBP guy and solid defender, and I'll take him over either of my two majors guys. 14 POT. 12. SS/2B (AA) Jensen is a lefty hitter who can play either MI position, and can hit and steal bases though he won't take many walks. 14 POT. 13. P (A) Mejia although a lefty has an unhittable fastball/exceptional curve combo at 14 POT and throws a ton of groundballs, taking that all day. 14. 2B/OF (A) Jacobs should turn into a slick-fielding slugger, 15 POT. 15. P (Rookie) Rock was my 1st round pick this season, 14 POT righty who should be excellent. That was easier than expected. Have a few more majors hitters and a few pitchers that are developing and made for easy drops, but kept my best minors prospects and still left out a couple of really good hitting prospects. | C Pros Barrera want him for sure great catcher. Minors Kim second pick this year in AAA yet to make majors but will be good. 1B Pros Bak I guess strugling this year but made allstars and all league last year and still only 27. Minors None 2B Pros None Minors Kozlowski Was an 8th round pick but is still my top 2B prospect. 3B Pros Burt for sure his salary is high but I think it might drop after a bit of a down year. Pena always sneeks around and bats over 300 so keep him too. Minors Carreon first round pick this year arm is a little low for 3B but thats his best spot 21 in rookie is bad but he has 14pot. SS Pros Becker still feels weird have him in the big leagues but he is 22. Struggling to find success besides stealing bases that will come to him. Minors None LF Pros Montgomery 24 in his rookie year can steal and hit. Minors Greer for sure 14pot great left fielder. CF Majors None Frazier is too old at 36 but he always preforms I wouldn't mind letting him leave but no one eould probably pick him. Minors Padilla Forth pick last year will hopefully be good in CF. RF Pros Duncan at 31 is getting older but still best player on the team Minors None. Pitcher Pros K Lombo keeps throw K's and is my best pitcher at 29. Arce still young at 26 and pretty good. Arocha tied with K Lombo for best SI but is a year younger and brook out last year only to struggle again. Knox its his rookie year but he is 25 and has 14pot and has gained 14 SI this year. Minors No one I would kill to keep Meade only 14 pot but only has Throw all day so one one from the minor should have some people turn out good. Well thats 16 so drop umm Pena cause he's 31 and does not play that much. |

| Majors — Pitchers Caesar Rodriguez: “C-guez” is rapidly becoming one of the more dependable starters in the Rats’ rotation. Edward Power: He’s still a little rough around the edges, but also still young with room to grow. Alfredo Ordonez: For starters who can’t make it through the sixth, here’s the guy who’ll be able to take it to the closer. Luis Rojas: Another young pitcher, he could be the closer for the Rats for a long time to come. Majors — Hitters Russell Jonsson: Despite being pretty much the definition of a prototypical shortstop, his bat has been a pleasant surprise. Jung Hwan Lee: The Beast. …’Nuff said. Yoshio Sakai: Drafted as a 13 POT, he surpassed that and is a consistent hitter who turns singles and walks into doubles. Minors — Pitchers Mateo Acuna [Rookie]: Probably the most promising pitching prospect in a farm system that’s generally suspect in that area. Minors — Hiters André Andre [A]: “Andre²” is easily the Rats’ number one prospect. Karlo Bašić [AA]: He’s a very promising outfielder and backup second baseman likely to be near the top of the lineup. Seiichi Ikeyama [AAA]: He may need another season to grow into his bat, but his glove and arm fit the hot corner nicely. Carson Ingle [AAA]: “Pretty Boy” has the range to deal with the vast DFB outfield and deceptive speed on the base paths. Lucas Lawton [AA]: If “El El” can develop his bat like the Rats hope he does, he could be an exceptional utility man. Enrique Madrigal [A]: He’s something of a late bloomer who’ll never reach his POT, but he’ll still be a monster. | 1. Kraig Ruff is a beast and can strike out many pitchers. He's also 23 so he has many good years ahead of him. 2. Raul Peralta is another very good pitcher. 3. Hector Gonzalez is a consistent hitter. He's also young and plays very good defense in the OF. 4. Jeff Dolan has surpassed his 13 POT and the very good hitter report by a bit. He's a huge part of the offense. 5. Brady Perrone has the potential to be a very good offensive player at a more defensive oriented position playing 2B. He can also play SS if needed as well. 6. Steve Yamada has the potential to be a very good pitcher with low defensive skills. 7. Rogelio Alonso is very good defensively and has a lot of speed. I also do hope for him to decent offensively. He's also a 16 POT. 8. Federico Navarro has the potential to be a great DH with his low defensive skills. 9. Robert Bartolini can be a stud with his very low defensive skills. I do hope he'll perform very well once he's in the majors. 10. Angelo Renteria has the potential to be another very good pitcher with his low defensive skills. I'll actually bring him up after the All-Star break to see how he does. 11. Dustin Giles can pitch many innings and can strike out quite a few batters. 12. Louis Suzuki has the potential to be a good leadoff hitter for me. 13. Zachary Rossi can be a good back-end bullpen pitcher. 14. Rafael Porras can be a very good defensive player at SS. I do hope his offense can be decent for someone who doesn't have a hitting report. 15. Teshuan Covington can be a good catcher or RF with that arm. His offense can also be very good. |

| I want to say I love this exercise. I don't think I would protect anyone over 29. Except a starting pitcher who has been getting it done and has 3+ years to go. Otherwise the future has to be protected. | Interesting idea...decisions were not as difficult as I expected. Surprisingly, I feel better about my SP for the next few seasons after this. 5 Major League Position Players 1. Bernie Sullinger SS 30 I have no backup plan at Shortstop...can't afford to not have him. 2. Adam Collins LF 30 Random waiver claim from a couple seasons ago has turned in to the leader of my offense. 3. Nicholas Fowler 1B 27 Another recent waiver claim that has come into his own on my roster. His age vs SI was a factor here. 4. Julian Roman DH 25 The only 12 pot on this list...I just really like his offensive build and want his career to play out on my roster. 5. John Mauldin 2B 24 Had to protect one of my two developing 2B. Mauldin gets the edge over Rivas. 2 Minor League Position Players 6. Devon Strickland SS 20 No-brainer. Star SS of the future. 7. Larry Sterling DH 19 This may be the most questionable choice on the list, but I have a soft spot for "The Glove." 5 Major League Pitchers 8. Lance Lynn CL 30 Struggling this season and already 30 years old, but I couldn't bear to let him go. 9. Eric Righetti RP 27 Elite back-end reliever entering his prime. 10. Jesus Fossas SP 25 I am worried he is stunting...but if his development kicks back in, he is an obvious keep. 11. Ryan Goodwin SP 25 25 years old and already at the top of the rotation. Easy keep... 12. Claudio Escalante SP 25 My first Round 1 pick just reached 20 in Movement. Excited to see the next few seasons for him. 3 Minor League Pitchers 13. Daniel Cruz SP 25 14 pot minor league SP. Easy keep. 14. Barney Bechtel SP 24 Another homegrown SP gets the edge for the last spot over some similar players. 15. | As a rookie team owner, and a LL6 team at that, this is a fun discussion to watch but I'm not sure how good I'd be (or relevant, given the low/beginners level of my team and the short period of time I've had to get to know my players)... but here's my go at my 15 protected players. Anyone that finds this conversation interesting and wants to take a look at my team and offer any thoughts about my list... I'd be happy to hear them! CL Saaverda - he has been an absolute beast for me at Closer. SP Peters - he also has been an absolute beast for me as my ace. Until yesterday, he had only 1 loss and a sub-2.00 ERA. Guy has been a monster this year. SP Mancuso - I *think* this guy is my #2 SP, but he was poorly (and sometimes never) used prior to me buying the team, so I'm hoping I can resurrect his career. At 28, he should have enough time left to shine. RP Tommy Bower - I *think* this guy should be a mainstay in my bullpen for years to come. RP Venentini - Another guy I *think* should be a valued member of my bullpen for another 5 years, though I may be over-valuing him. OF Repetto - I know he's 30 but he's been on fire all year and I think he's worth protecting as a veteran outfielder. OF Poole - Another 30 year old outfielder, but he's batting ratings are lovely and I think he's worth keeping for whatever productive years he has left. 1B Lara - Not great defensive ratings, but he's offensive ones are nice and he's an affordable 29 year old 1B IF Beals - Not sure if I'm right about this guy, but he can play all over the infield, has nice defense, and respectible offensive ratings. A super utility? A starting infielder? Either way, I think I should protect him given his age and ability. 2B Cornejo - My scouts tell me he's my #2 prospect, but I never know whether to believe what they say. Regardless, I like his defense and his potential. RP Allen - Don't know what to make of this guy. Nothing stands out as amazing, but he's got lots of potential and he's super young. I feel like I should hold onto him and see what he becomes. 1B Ortiz - Dude's a young 1B with nice potential, nice defense, and nice hitting predictions. Seems like I should keep him for the future. SP Gilbert - Seems like a probable member of my future starting rotation. SP/RP Rizzo Not sure if he'll have the stamina to be a starter, but seems like his pitching arsenal will be quite nice when he's ready for the bigs. SP/RP Pascual A lefty prospect with two expected major league quality pitches? Yes please. Love to hear any thoughts or advice. Good thread. |

| I am currently in rebuild mode, and most of the guys I kept are prospects. Nevertheless, here is my list. Major League Batters 1) Rueben Zamora, 3B/OF, 29 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/101309) A solid waiver pickup when I started. He has hit over .285 the last season and a half. This year he has already his hit 24 home runs and 32 stolen bases. Too bad an injury will prevent him his first all star appearance. 2) Bernie Pennington, 2B, 28 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/108365) Another waiver claim, his bat is definitely the reason he is on this list. He has batted .321 and has been a solid number 3 hitter. His range isn’t ideal for second, but his production at the plate trumps his fielding. He will most likely be in his second straight all-star game 3) Manny Fogarty, OF, 25 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/117213) Another .300 hitter who has 70-80 stolen base potential. He looks like he will be on my team for another 8 or 9 years. He is most likely an all-star this year. 4) Rui Sawamura, DH/1B 24 year old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/156122) He was drafted this year and looks like a solid bat against left handed pitchers. He is a solid POT 13. Major League Pitchers 1) Fernando Barrientos, 27 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/101838) A 100+ wavier claim that has been decent so far. He is just too good to keep unprotected. 2) Herschel Riley, 25 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/134013) A reliever that is underdeveloped, but has dominated in the majors so far. He hasn’t blown a save this year which has been a surprise. Minor League Prospects 1) Mark Hooper (AAA), Pitcher, 23 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/149719) A 13 POT pitcher that doesn’t have a negative pitching report and with low fielding stats. Even though he has a 3.7 career ERA, he has allowed a .246 average against. I drafted him last BB (Broken Bat) year in the second round, and hopefully he can be a mid-rotation starter. 2) Kirby Nash (AAA), 1B, 23 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/144510) A 13 POT first baseman that can hit for average and some speed. The power might be a bit harder to come by with his 1.57 GB/FB rate. However, the main force is his close averages against lefties and righties. 3) JC Redmond (AA) Pitcher, 23 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/150177) This 13 POT pitcher is a little behind in development, but he has a good ERA and FIP. His strikeouts, walks, and home run rates aren’t that bad either. Hopefully he can be a number 4 or 5 of the future due to good pitchers in the minors. 4) Jayson Martelli (AA), OF, 21 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/149004) He was my first round draft pick last year can do almost anything. In an ideal world, Martelli will hit .300 with double digit home runs and steals. He was a no brainer keeper. 5) Emilio Bauta (A), Pitcher, 20 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/144627) A second round pick in 2030 he is a 14 POT high school player. With no negative reports this guy has ace potential and is a must protect. 6) John Allen (A), Pitcher, 19 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/150281) A third round pick last year this pitcher has electric stuff without control over it. The pitcher is still a POT 14 and that is extremely valuable which pushed me to keep him. 7) Javier Ceja (A), Pitcher, 21 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/140044) This pitcher has low fielding skills with great stuff. The hope is he becomes a closer, but he would also be a great right hand specialist. With my lack of high end relievers this gave me reason to protect him over hitting prospects. 8) Hunter Darling(A), OF, 20 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/144018) A 13 POT hitter who could play as an outfielder or possibly a DH. Hopefully he can work on his GB/FB rate to use his prolific power. 9) Brett Dalton(Rookie), 2B, 18 years old, (http://brokenbat.org/player/154393) A 12 POT that has four positive reports. I hope he can develop past his potential, but he has been great this year. He has stolen 45 bases and has double digit home runs. Hopefully this guy can become a solid hitter that is atop the lineup. | Cool thread, here are my 15: C: Kamida - He can mow down baserunners with the best of them. There is a reason his nickname is "The Cop." 1B: Fujita - Our solid leadoff man who knows how to steal. Larkin - Future 1B or DH depending on how his development pans out. 2B:Bessho - Still has growing to do but looks like a serious contender for the starting job in a couple of seasons if he can improve his batting. SS: Reilly - Very reliable shortstop with some ability with the bat. 3B: Madrigal - Our current 3B, makes few errors and has some pop at the plate. Brewer - Solid backup 3B, could also transition to the outfield if needed in the future. OF: Cornelius - Best OF on the team, bat not as strong but his fielding makes up for it. Potter - Solid CF who has been with the team through the farm system. I'm kind of attached to him since he was one of my early draft picks and is finally paying off. P: Chong - Took a little while to be majors ready, but he is currently one of our best pitchers. Kiyohara - Doing well this season and still has a lot of growing he can do. Lee - Looks like he will have a very strong build once he is fully trained, he is decent at the moment. Field Minors: Garza - 15 POT, need I say more? Herrington - The scouts say a lot of good things about him and has plenty of room and time to grow into a future star. Pitching Minors: Rodriguez - Has potential to be a hard throwing starter.
