If i have a average 25 yr old major league player, who gets around 500 at bats a year, about how many skill points will a player like him gain in an average year? Also a SP pitcher who pitches an average of 200 innings pitched? Thank you.

I (always) thought, a player gain skill points based on his potential and manager development skill. Play him at Majors will 'only' help progress a little bit.

Also 'most' of players stop gaining skill points at 26.

Others may correct this if i was wrong.

I would contest age 26. You may be seeing that if most of your guys hit the majors at 23-24. If players don't get playing time until they are older their gains will occur then. My 2B Bueno is an example of one of these guys.

It's really hard to estimate the average gains of a 25 yr old. There is a great deal of variability. On average, I expect 1 point per season in growing skills. Could definitely see 2. Have even seen 3, but that is really rare.

Not all skills are growing. Players reach caps (I suspect they are soft caps rather than hard caps; ie., growth becomes really slow rather than zero ... doesn't really matter). If a player's BC and PD have flatlined, he's going to add less SI a season than a player who is adding in all skills.

There is a correlation there between potential bars and gains. 15 pot guys likely have high caps in most skills and will gain more SI per season than a typical 12 pot guy who likely has low caps in some skills.

I generalize around 5 SI for hitters and 10 SI for pitchers. Your mileage may vary.
