Steve ninjaed another update to the boxscore. We now have strikes and ground ball-fly ball in the boxscore. Thanks Steve!

Just noticed it. The realism of the game gets better and better.

Love the GB-FB update - it would be interesting to keep track of this, something like a GB% if it was possible, I don't know how workable it is though

Ya. That's great. Thanks!

This is not criticism, but my own ignorance of how the data is sorted. Line drives are a separate category from gb and fb?

Yes, I haven't made a big announcement because I’m still tweaking things a bit. I think there aren’t enough ground balls…too many hits are line drives – a few need to be ground balls for the numbers to work.

I’m thinking that if people start to look at players strike percentage or GB-FB ratio, they can start to get a better idea about a minor or big leaguers control and the type of pitcher he is.

Yes, each batted ball is either a ground ball, line drive or fly ball. Additionally, infield fly balls are usually kept as a subcategory. In general, the percent of line drives that turn into hits is high and outs usually come off of ground balls and fly balls.

Hmmm, that's odd. I don't know the stats, but just from watching the play-by-play I had the impression that we had an awful lot of line drive outs, much more than I would have expected in a real game. But then, in the play-by-play you also don't see what type of batted ball a hit was, so my impression might be skewed.

Here's the numbers I've seen (sorry about the formatting):

Groundballs, Flyballs and Line Drives

NUMBER OUTS OUT%
Groundballs 9952 7208 72%
Flyballs 7845 6179 79%
Line Drives 4082 1050 26%
Total 21879 14437 66%

Yeah, I think we added record in division and record in 1-run games. Maybe something else too...

We've added the GB/FB ratio to the hitters statistics collection now too. You can now see the value on the statistics page or on the player page where the statistics are displayed.
