I think there aren’t enough ground balls…too many hits are line drives – a few need to be ground balls for the numbers to work. I’m thinking that if people start to look at players strike percentage or GB-FB ratio, they can start to get a better idea about a minor or big leaguers control and the type of pitcher he is. This is not criticism, but my own ignorance of how the data is sorted. Line drives are a separate category from gb and fb? Yes, each batted ball is either a ground ball, line drive or fly ball. Additionally, infield fly balls are usually kept as a subcategory. In general, the percent of line drives that turn into hits is high and outs usually come off of ground balls and fly balls. Steve |

I don't know the stats, but just from watching the play-by-play I had the impression that we had an awful lot of line drive outs, much more than I would have expected in a real game. But then, in the play-by-play you also don't see what type of batted ball a hit was, so my impression might be skewed. | ||
