Went high school, was torn between 2 very good, a P with exceptional breaking ball and stamina and a L/L bat. Usually I choose the pitcher, but went with the bat because
1) I have enough pitching in my minors (he could have been anywhere between 13 and 15 pot with his description)
2) I could need a lefty because I don't have them in lower minors

Don't now if I made the right choice, but I'm satisfied

Pretty happy with my guy. I think he can be a lethal reliever down the road if his control comes around.

Went with the only very good on my draft board, and while he is far better than last season's #1 and is definitely a keeper, I doubt he will ever be anything more than a decent middle reliever.

I got a nice great hitting, prolific slugging catcher that has very good potential. He'll be my future DH/1B. I also forgot to add that he's a 14 POT player.

There was a very good hitting, above average slugger, outstanding in the field, and very good potential 1B.

Federico Navarro? Oh damn. Guess he was better after all.

I had it between Federico and the guy I chose.

Seriously, only one pitcher to choose from. No ratings average pot. So went with the only very good, and got a crap 12 potential. Getting really sick of this, last season was a complete bust on all my picks....now we start like this. May as well just have a bot pick for me, pretty pissed off right now.

Didn't have any very good potential guys on my board. Best two options both sounded like OF which is a desparate need. Went with Lewis.

His potential is a little disappointing for a 1st round pick, but he should be a competent OF, and could be a decent offensive player, especially if he can steal the odd base.

Got myself another 14 POT Aussie catcher Harry Stanton.

The first time the Giants scouted Australia we scooped up catcher Nathan Graham.

Only 1 "very good" on my board, so it wasn't much of a decision...I'm quite happy with how it turned out too, with a 14pt LF !

@xLee227 - you got the pick of the new managers today, but I'm very happy to have got the 2nd best.

You also got the best of the LF between us (hitting wise), but I'm delighted to have the 2nd best again - another 14 POT!

Oh, and FWIW, I had an incredible FOUR very goods to choose from, all hitters (in fact, my only pitching option was average, which was fine with me after drafting a whole bunch of good pitchers the last three seasons).

@amalric7 - Thanks! I was ecstatic when I stumbled across Sanchez, hopefully that's a harbinger of a better season to come! :) Congrats on Di Carlo, I think he and Butler will end up projecting quite similarly, which should be interesting to keep track of.

No very good prospects at all, and two deeply flawed good potentials were my 'best' options. One was a pitcher with strikeout pitching and exceptional breaking ball, but control lacking, and a Vgood hit/decent slug & speed/atrocious fielder. Took the latter, 12 POT catch and release. :(

Went International for the first round as usual, none of the choices were actually impressive so had to choose between two identical pitchers (19 y.o, exceptional curves :D and good pot). One was French, another Israeli. Picked the latter as I always wanted a player from Israel for more ethnic diversity in my team. :)

Looks decent, but I really have to stop drafting pitchers... desperately need some bats now.

Boy, how I hate having to play from my mobile phone while I'm not at home...
I was trying to take a screenshot of the pool sizes to be able to keep track of the depletion later in the season, and somehow, I must have touched the screen. Of all the places on the screen I might have hit, I touched the Latin pool button. Coming from season after season of *beep*ty draft picks, I start 2029 by picking from the Latin pool in the first round.
I was already expecting the only decently scouted prospect in the selection to be some underdeveloped 24-year-old, but, miraculously, Lady Luck swooped in to bail me out:

The guy is about a thousand miles away from the majors, but he's a veritable future ace and my best draft pick in at least three seasons. By my projection, he should become best pitcher I ever drafted. Too bad I'll have to wait some six or seven seasons to have him on the mound...

I remember something about it being better to be lucky than good :) Great pick though.

Latin is so risky that I tend to avoid it until very late in the rounds. Waivers are littered with 24 year old reasons why I don't draft Latin with any confidence ;)

I think most of us feel that way. Which is why Latin still has a pretty stocked pool come 3rd and 4th round.

I had a choice between a 2B and 2 pitchers, all of which with at least good potential. I needed a 2B. I should have went pitching.

Well, to be fair, I had several players with good or very good potential...but they're all in positions I already have plenty of. And still not a solid SS among them.

Got one of those myself last year in the 3rd round in Rojas, who was slightly better developed but was a year older.

These guys will be fine in time, but it will take time - and patience. A full 5-6 seasons in the minors at the recommended levels will get DeLeon there, but when he is ready you'll have a very good starter (and probably better than mine, due to his low fielding stats).

I went with my new policy of sticking to high schoolers to keep the pipeline consistent and to be patient. The best write up of the bunch went to this guy: Marty Newby

A very raw C with lots of upside when he grows up.

@Grizzly, I wouldn't play a guy with a 10 arm at catcher. Maybe 3B or 1B if you have the opening. That's a very awkward build with 10 arm, 13 range, and outstanding fielding. Technically you could put him at 2B, but I'd be more comfortable with a 10 arm at 3B than 13 range in the middle infield, but that's my own eval system.

I really need to stop going to the Latin Academy so early. This guy was one of the best looking option in a poor draw. No idea what to make him, seems a shame to waste that arm at 1B but his fielding would force him either there or maybe catcher. Or maybe he will be my next DH specialist if his batting works out as projected. Tempted to pitch him but I'd hate to throw away a 13 Pot.

Looks like a lefty catcher to me. I wouldn't waste that arm on DH or 1B.

You're right about that, Newtman. I looked at the Rookie level, and I now have a whole infield of hot prospects now that I am training him at 2B. I figure the 1B will be headed up to A ball some time this year, but I like him at 2B.

Matt Morton, drafted him out of college SI 77 Pot 14. Will be an atrocious fielder but I plan on leaving him as an OF anyway since he is a lefty and a prolific slugger, whatever that means.

@Fife - being a lefty restricts him (pretty much) to OF or 1B, though some people don't mind lefty catchers. But OF would be best with that range and arm, either CF or RF, ideal range and arm for either.

Looking back at this and I had four "very good" prospects in round 1, and some dross since. I picked Di Carlo, a nice hit/power/range OF and a 14 POT.

Of the other three very goods one hasn't been drafted, and the other two are these guys, with identical reports who both went in the 2nd round. Think the draft is a crapshoot, much?

Rodney Sheehan - 15 POT

Took until the 5th round for the last of those "very good" prospects to appear. Had been hoping he'd come back up for me but no joy.

Burt Caldwell - 14 POT.

Was a nice selection to be offered in round 1, pity I've had garbage ever since!
