We should draft today and not wait another week for the draft.
It would make the most sense to allow our 1st round picks to enjoy the entire spring training and it would give a bump to the end of the free agency rush.

I'm going to disagree with this very vocally in the hope that Steve sees that the Moo Cows hate it and does it anyway just to spite us.

+1 from me. If we brought the draft forward by a week it would also mean a round 8 pick could get some minor league games in before they stop.

I would mean removing the 8th round trade-off. Right now its a choice. Clear space for #8, or go into the offseason with a full roster of 50. If we moved it forward, you would be able to sign FA and waivers after the 8th round. So that game trade-off would be lost.

Could just move the gap. Put the off-week during the AS game week.

Hey, I’m new here. So the draft is next week? And by the looks of things, there are 8 rounds? So should I only have 42 on my roster at this point? Are all 8 rounds next week?

The first round is next week, yes, but it’s one round per week up through Round #8. You can only draft if you have fewer than fifty players on your team (including the Minors). If you have fifty players on Friday, you can cut one and draft at any point during the week (though it’s generally advised to draft as soon as possible after the draft is opened).

@Rock. I didn't think of it that way (affects on 8th round timing) That sounds like a win-win to me! Kill 2 birds with one stone and push the draft up a week 😊

Compared to Hardwood, it seems like the flip takes a long, long time.

When I get a few things under control, I think it might be worth seeing if I can squeeze a week out of the overall flip and re-start. Definitely want to keep the fixed days for draft & training days.

Could be just me but I like a breather between seasons - gives those who won a chance to reflect and enjoy it and those who didn't some time to plan. Life is too quick in general these days.

I like the system how it is personally, the length is nice. Gives me time to get everything set for the season.

Wahey! Draft open! Got a 13 Pot pitcher and a 14 Pot Pitcher.

Picked the 13 because he had significantly better stats. Hope I've not been a berk.

Dinos have a terrifying lack of pitching depth. Forced our pool.

Got 2 guys with identical pot, scouting and very similar skills and SI. Went with Andrew and his amateur career was significantly better.

Hopefully a #2 or #3 starter in a couple seasons.

Might change my team name to the Pittsburgh Pirates... Got in early with nobody off the board, and grabbed a pitcher from Vanderbilt: De Angelis. Immediately becomes my #1 pitching prospect. Hopefully he turns in to the type of arm my system desperately needs.

Ended up with a really safe college bat going with "any player". Disappointed I haven't drafted a true star in ages though, running out of time to do so.

I had a pretty solid board out of high school and landed with this guy. It's nice anytime you get two positive bat comments. Really came down to this guy and a pot 13 lefty hurler.

Very pleased with this fella, although would have been great to get him at IF

http://brokenbat.org/player/286387

Had a 26 SI, 13 POT 17-yo pitcher as well, but only with an unhittable fastball and 0 control so passed him up.

Went shopping for a SS and caught a OF. (He could still add depth to SS as well.

Had 2 of these on the board that looked like twins. The other was 1 pot lower with a range of 16, and decent slugger with hitting starting at 4. His stats were better. I guess time will tell if I picked the right one.

@jerbeetwo

I know the feeling, I have a complete and utter inability to draft above pot 13, I get maybe one every other year (with the exception of the first few seasons of the new draft, where the talent generation was broken and we all got studs).

I've largely been succeeding due to having gotten even more stars than most during those few busted seasons.

Best board I've had in a long time. I had one very good, who was a 13POT major league fastball, starting pitcher.

And yet I had three 14POTs, all of whom were just good potential. One was like the pitcher above, one would "never be a decent hitter", and the third was the one I took:-

Just a good potential on Grisson so maybe just a 13POT, but had the best scouting report by far, pretty much the ideal pitching report.

When you get a 15 pot, s/o & exceptional breaking ball pitcher on your board, and turn it down.

Can't turn down a 16 pot though.

I joined just after those first couple of stud drafts and sadly my zombie GM before me didn’t come up with one. I look at some of the lineups I compete against and keep saying “wish I had a guy like that”. At any rate those careers won’t last forever and then the playing field will be more level. Then we’ll see.

Latin Academy was 97% I got a horrific board. 1 12pot never be decent hitting. 3 11pot below average Fielding. 5 10pot all had none in scouting!!! 1 9pot pitcher on my list. Nightmarish 1st round!!! Missing yesterday oh well.

Leopards snag a pitcher with very good potential, "unhittable" fastball, and without a control comment.

Pretty sure this is our first draft pick with all three who doesn't appear to be HR prone. Plus a 3.31 high school ERA to boot.

Just what we needed!

My board was less than stellar, but I went with that 12 Pot guy. With 18 Range, 20 Arm and 19 Speed at 17, and a projection that he can be outstanding in the field, worst case scenario he'll be an average batter, but a wonderful fielder.
